In 2006, I was told by a VW salesperson that the New Beetle was
suffering from many quality problems, due to the fact that the VW plant
in Mexico (where all New Beetles are manufactured) weren't inspecting
the cars before being shipped. The manager of that plant, according to
the salesperson, was fired. Hopefully their quality control has
improved since then.
